John Kesler graduated from the University of Utah magna cum laude in 1968 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science, where he also served as student body president and was an all-conference varsity swimmer. He has remained involved with the University over the years including serving as chair of the University of Utah Hospitals and Clinics and as chair of the Lowell Bennion Community Service Center. After graduating from the University of Utah John pursued graduate studies in political philosophy at the University of Hamburg in Germany as a Rotary International fellow. John graduated from Columbia University Law School in 1973 with a juris doctor degree, where he was also an international fellow of the graduate school of Columbia University and thereafter served as assistant to the director of the International Fellows Program. John has practiced law continually since 1975 and has maintained an AV rating from the attorney peer review rating service, Martindale Hubbell, for over 25 years, their highest ethical and professional rating. John was a founding member of the Integral Institute founded by Ken Wilber. He served as executive director of the United States Coalition of Healthy Cities and Communities, and as co-chair of the Healthy Communities Global Action Network. He was communities editor of the National Civic Review. John developed a spiritually based, character and virtue practice in service of flourishing through the full spectrum of human development known as integral polarity practice (“IPP”) and has practiced and shared IPP for over twenty years. There are currently IPP students and practitioners across the world. John has recently been invited to present about and share IPP practice at Harvard University Divinity School and at the Oxford University Character Project. After a positive two-year qualitative evaluation of the benefits of IPP, Harvard Medical School has funded a neuro-psychological study of IPP that is underway. John is co-founder and chair of YOUnify, a non-profit organization grounded in IPP principles and dedicated to bridging differences of all sorts and making progress on important issues in service of interrelated individual, collective, and ecosystemic flourishing. He is a member of the Oxford University based working group on Leadership for Flourishing and chair of the civic and government task force of the Spirituality and Flourishing interest group, both part of the global Flourishing Network sponsored by Harvard University comprised of around 1,000 scholars and researchers. John has been designated the “flourishing practice facilitator” for the FN. John is a fellow of the Institute for Strategic Clarity (“ISC”) (ISC has consulted in over 100 countries and done research in over 150 countries in service of “ecosystem-wide flourishing) for the purpose of providing IPP based training in support of their work. John has recently launched “Another Way Forward Leadership Movement” for the purpose of promoting leadership in support of flourishing and “mature flourishing leadership” to help train the next generation of leaders to deal with the complexity of local to global issues is support of ecosystem-wide flourishing.
